Hi all! I'm Andrea Buginsky, a new YA fantasy writer. I have one book, "The Chosen," published with the second one coming soon. I love to read, write, watch TV and movies, and just hang out.

I'd love some company, so pull up a comfy chair or cushion, and let's talk books! I look forward to getting to know you

Andi

Hi Andi!

*pulls up a comfy chair* I don't know much about YA writing but I do know my children would love for me to write a children's book!

Can I ask, how are you able to switch your mindset from that of an adult to trying to write as a child would read it?

Hi Amy!

I don't really think about the changing of my mindset, to be honest with you. I've always felt like a kid growing up, and still do to a degree. I'm the youngest of my family and have always been "babied," so to speak, so it's very easy for me to connect with my inner child or teen self and write from that point-of-view.

My best suggestion for you would be to read books that are intended for the age you want to write. Also watch a couple of shows or movies made for that age group. If you're intended age group is the same your own children fall into, hang out with them as a "friend" and not just as "Mom," and pick up some insights that you may not have noticed as "Mom."

I hope that helps! Please let me know if there are any more questions I can anwer for you, or feel free to bounce some ideas off of me. I can also recommend some books/tv shows/movies if you tell me the intended age group you wish to write for. Good luck! We'll talk again soon.

Hi Andi and Amy, I have to agree; finding your inner teen is pretty easy. Shedding mature adult layers and viewing these times through more innocent (?!) eyes is a blast. It's almost like you get a 'do over' as more than one person (character)... I am on my third of a series and am able to 'grow' my teens through many trials and relevant life lessons. Try it! It comes easier than it sounds.

What are you reading?

Hi Andi, btw, what is(was) your first fiction novel of 2012? I just finished Melissa Foster's 'Come Back to Me'. I liked the story and the pacing because I am big on pacing. I just can't figure out why Beau's best friend Kevin didn't clue him in the second time he saw him after he returned. Guys do that! Especially when he was in such distress and anguish. Did I miss something? ~ Megan

What I'm Reading

Hi Megy,

The first book I read this year was "The Iron King," the first book of the "Iron Fey Series" by Julie Kagawa. It was a great YA fantasy, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I read "Come Back to Me" last fall, and really liked it. I agree: Kevin should have warned Beau. Guys can be a little strange with their emotions and actions sometimes, can't they? Hmm...

Right now, I"m reading "Eulogy's Secret" by Grace Elliot. How about you?

Looks intriguing ...

That looks very interesting; you'll have to let me know how you like it Andi. My 'support the author' job is working at the Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier and yesterday an elderly man came by and spent an hour showing me how to tie a special knot used in many fishing line repairs. Repairing fishing rods that have been broken by tourists is an aspect of my job.

Anyhoo, it turns out he is retired engineer/author and just published a book titled "The Quest for Tepee Island". I downloaded it this AM and this is my current read. He is an engineer who just earned his Masters and is working on his Doctorate. He was such a delightful person I was compelled to buy his book. What is your favored genre?

Neat Story :)

Wow! What a great story. You'll have to let me know how his book is.

I'm just about done with "Eulogy's Secret." It's great! I don't read romance very often any more, as I enjoy YA fantasy these days (to answer your question). This is the first historical romance I've read, and it was very good. I know the author, Grace Elliot, as she's with my pubisher too. It's the first one of her books I've read. She's very good!

Next, I'll be going back to Danielle Steel's "Legacy" which I started before getting "The Iron King" and "Eulogy's Secret" on my Kindle So many books, so little time. But I'm trying to make up for the pitiful amount of reading I did last year.

It's very nice chatting with you. I hope you keep in touch. Have a good evening.

I tried your suggestions

Yes Andi and Megan the horror and adventure guy just wrote one from the teens point of view. That is of course thanks to the two of you.

It seems to be lacking something that I can't quite put my finger on yet (so we know it is not my laptop keys) but I'll keep at it and see what happens. I appreciate the advice and always enjoy a new perspective on things.

Thanks

Randy
